One of the most common mistakes made in climbing is not doing a proper warmup. Here is one of my favorite warmups:
1. 200 jump ropes – 100 forward and 100 backward. This helps with basic fitness, coordination and increases heart rate.
2. Check the time, and climb 15 problems within 20 minutes. These problems should be easy enough that you will not fall on any of them. Focus on climbing smoothly with precise execution.
3. Rest 5 minutes and climb 5 moderate problems increasing in difficulty. Your last climb in this block should be hard enough that you may fall, but easy enough that you can still complete it. Again, focus on climbing smoothly and deliberately.
Here are some basic guidelines for what levels to climb:
Max Redpoint 10 Climbs 5 Climbs
V1 5.7 – V0- V0- V0+
V3 V0- – V1 V1 – V2
V5 V0 – V2 V2 – V4
V7 V0+ – V3 V3 – V5
V10 V1 – V5 V5 – V7
Have some fun out there!!!
